“Modern day” Reiki has been around for nearly 100 years now. It continues to be a profound gift to humanity through the awakening experience of Mikao Usui on Mt. Kurama in Japan so long ago. Today Reiki has many forms as it has travelled around the world and been taught by different schools and teachers.
The Jikiden Reiki Institute in Kyoto, Japan has done a wonderful job for the last 20 years of reintroducing the original teachings of Reiki as they were passed down teacher to student from founder, Usui Sensei to student, Hayashi Sensei to student, Chiyoko Yamaguchi Sensei. Preserving the original teachings without alteration has been a passion for Chiyoko Sensei’s son, Tadao Yamaguchi, chairman of the Institute today. Jikiden Reiki teaches students how to follow the “sick” energy in the body, how to evaluate the severity of it, how to dissipate the waves of “sick” energy and assist the body in its own natural healing process to restore balance and harmony within. During Shoden, Jikiden Reiki students learn a special Reiki technique to perform at the end of each treatment to more deeply support the healing process for the client, grounding them and giving them a renewed vitality. Even following the first course, Shoden, all students, as Usui Sensei said, “have the ability to heal disease”.
Prolonged exposure to stress is behind all disease today. Inflammation is our body’s response to stress overload. And, inflammation is the primary underlying factor in all disease. As a healing art, Reiki is a drug-free method available for everyone as preventative care to keep stress at bay. More importantly, Reiki serves to facilitate the body’s own detoxification process to rid toxic stress, pain and inflammation from the body. Symptoms are signals for us to pay attention to a growing toxic overload in our body. Whether it is from eating the wrong foods to physical or emotional stress, our bodies let us know when we are out of balance. Reiki is offered in many hospitals worldwide today for its healing benefits.
The 5 principles of Reiki taught by all Reiki schools provide a pathway for emotional well-being and heart-centered living. In order to combat stress in today’s technological culture, it is essential for everyone to learn heart-based living with gratitude, integrity and compassion. The Reiki principles enable each person to sustain harmony and peace within.
While I have taught the western style Reiki for over a decade, I have embraced the Jikiden Reiki Institute’s mission to teach the most authentic, unaltered information on Reiki. In honoring the traditions of Japanese culture from which Reiki arose, the Jikiden Reiki Institute offers identical courses worldwide by all instructors of the original Reiki teachings without any western influence. Tuitions prices are the same for all courses as well. Instructors are highly trained and certified by the Institute following the Japanese lemoto system of teaching traditions.
